When they're not outing cheating spouses, Coldplay has busied themselves building a more sustainable concert experience.
That's because their Music of the Spheres tour is considered one of the most sustainable productions in modern history. The tour was built around being better for the planet. Since the band's making the rounds this morning, let's talk about the tour's positive impact (from their 2024 impact report).
Overall 59% reduction in direct CO2e emissions compared to 2016 tour.
7 million trees planted, one for each concert goer.
Partnerships with 23 green travel providers, The Ocean Cleanup, and a number of other notable environmental organisations.
"17kWh average power per show generated via in-venue solar installations, kinetic dance floors and power bikes - enough to power the band’s C-stage performance each night."
Over 3,000 tCO2e saved by purchasing Sustainable Aviation Fuels.
72% of all tour waste diverted from landfill.
9,625 meals + 90kg of toiletries donated to those in need.
33% reduction in freight impacts.
They recognise both the band and concerts in general still have a long way to go. But it's awesome to see concertgoers actively participating and that change is possible.
