It's a simple question, but one we so often forget to ask ourselves.
In the race to get where we're going, or accomplish what we're trying, how often do we sit back and ask why we're doing what we're doing? Think about the last time you've stopped to make a concerted investigation into your motives. Hard to remember, right?
I totally get it and am as guilty as the next person. What's funny is that I'm very planful. I have journals and planners galore, filled to the brim with my to-dos and KPIs. Looking back through them, though, they're just lists of things to get done. Very little space is devoted to the why behind the what.
Figuring out the why is crucial.
First, knowing the why helps cut down the noise. When you know your motivation, all those extra things that don't fit in fall to the wayside. That means you can focus on what really matters to you.
Second, knowing the why not only helps with the what but also with the how. In our modern age, with access to more information than we can ever consume, why is it we feel lost and uninformed? Information overload. A focused motivation clears the right pathways to help you accomplish your goals.
Finally, and most obviously, knowing your motivation helps motivate you! There's a huge difference between someone who is passionate about what they're doing and someone who is just going through the motions. Others feel it. You'll feel it.
So, my challenge to you this week is to find your motivation. Take that 30 minutes out of your busy schedule to remember why you started. You'll be glad you did.
